A California mother’s claim that she was escorted to a hospital by police after speaking to a nurse practitioner about postpartum depression has sparked a conversation among women. Jessica Porten, of Sacramento, wrote about her experience in a Facebook post last week that has been shared more than 30,000 times. Porten, the mother of a 4-month-old, wrote that she told a nurse practitioner that she was having “violent thoughts” and had a support system at home but needed “medication and therapy to get through this.” Jessica Porten's 4-month-old daughter, Kira, is pictured here.
